Contrary to many interpretations, I believe this verse is contrasting with the previous verses. Specifically, Jesus was warning the Jews who were undermining the faith of His followers. <p>In Mar 9:49 and forward Jesus is talking about His followers. They will soon be Baptised with the HolySpirit and fire and they will be salted with the salt of the Gospel of GraceThroughFaith InChrist Jesus.
