Why?   Because it requires them to give up their advantage over the riff-raff.   Intelligence is often treated in the same way as wealth is by the rich.   

Jesus has made the way to Him straight but simple - hear the Word, believe the Word, receive the Word and be transformed by the Word.   

The Word is the vehicle and the road is Faith.
