Our heart is the intersection of our spirit and soul.   In most believers the intersection is not complete.   

When we are Born Again of the Word and Holy Spirit we are a New Spirit being.   That New Spirit is perfect.   

However, our soul is not perfect.   It is our mind, will and emotions which must be transformed to the Mind Of Christ so that we are Living Sacrifices whose emotions are under control.   

As we submit ourselves to the Lord and resist the devil our soul becomes conformed to the image of Christ.   It is in that state that we have a single heart - our spirit and soul are in perfect agreement.
