Can Jesus be your Saviour and not your Lord?
It is a fact that Jesus shed His blood once and for all to forgive all sin for all mankind.
So the payment has been made. The debt has been forgiven. Or has it?
Is everyone saved because the debt has been paid? No.
What is required to effect salvation?
So that clearly defines how one is saved.
But what does it mean to 'confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus'? What are you confessing about the Lord Jesus? that Jesus is Lord
But what does Lord mean? It is another word for God. We know from that Jesus is Mighty God. We know from that Jesus is the only God.
So to confess the Lord Jesus is to confess that Jesus is God. Is the confession or acknowledgment that Jesus is God sufficient?
The word Lord implies master. Master implies owner (in the case of slaves) and it implies control. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you. |
From the above verses we understand that there are four levels of faith in Christ Jesus as Lord. We must hear, believe, receive and do the Word in order to effectively treat the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord.
To glorify the Lord Jesus Christ we must respond to His Words in faith and obedience.
So the question "Can Jesus be your Saviour and not your Lord?" is practically lived out by most Christians.
Listen to what Jesus said regarding what we do with the Word which is critical to our salvation:
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. |
So, implicit in the Lordship of Christ Jesus is obedience to His marching orders.
Listen to what Jesus said regarding His servants.
And cast you the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. But the fearful, and unbelieving... shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. - |
But aren't we Sons Of God? Truly, truly, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. |
Jesus became Saviour by virtue of His work on calvary. He has always been Lord as He is the eternal Word. But Jesus is only Lord of a person by an act of their will to receive Him as Lord and be obedient to Him.
Those who refuse to accept Him as Lord remain rebellious. Rebellion is what got Satan kicked out of heaven. Those who refuse to come under the authority of His Word are not fit for the Kingdom Of Heaven and so will be cast into the furnace of the Lake Of Fire. |
