The initial evidence of Spirit Baptism
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance.
Spirit Baptism is necessary for a powerful life in Christ.     Yes, we are Born Again and given the gift of Eternal Life by faith in Jesus Christ.     That is necessary for us to be Spirit Filled.

Some people receive the Holy Spirit baptism at the same time as they are Born Again, but most do not.
Primarily, this is a result of not being taught to expect the Holy Spirit baptism.
Secondly, there has been no demonstration of Spirit Baptism in many churches.

For those who may not understand who and what the Holy Spirit is, understand this:
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit Of Christ Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is not some 3rd person of some godhead.
The Holy Spirit is the eternal, omniscient, omnipresent being who created us and redeemed us by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Receive Him and fellowship with Him who is Eternal Life and Abundant Life.

While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Spirit Baptism is a work of faith as is the case with all blessings from the Lord.     As Peter preached the Gospel of the kingdom the Holy Spirit quickened their mortal bodies and they begin to speak in tongues under the power of the Holy Spirit.

Notice that the Holy Spirit sanctioned what Peter said about the name of Jesus.     When Jesus is lifted up the Holy Spirit lifts up the lifters and those who hear and believe.

And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
`of the Circumcision` refers to those believers who were still steeped in judaism.     Such did not understand the parables of Jesus referring to new wine and new cloth.

Faith in Christ Jesus results in being born as a New Spirit being.     It is the creation of new cloth, new wine skin.     The new cloth should not be mingled with old cloth.     The new wine skin is for new wine.     That `new wine` is the Holy Spirit.

For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify the Lord.     Then answered Peter,
Worshipping the Lord in Spirit and in Truth is worshipping the Lord Jesus in His Holy Spirit and His Words.     The Holy Spirit is the Spirit Of Christ Jesus.     When He is in us we are enabled to worship in the Spirit Realm, not just in the Physical Realm.

Worship in the Spirit takes an individual from the limitations of rational thought and form to revelation of the glory of Christ Jesus .

As we step into the Spirit Realm we are transcendentally taken into a higher consciousness of the Lord Jesus Christ and so worship Him in His Holy Spirit.

The Truth aspect of worship involves knowledge of and understanding of who we are In Christ so that we grasp our qualification to boldly enter into the Holy Of Holies.

I thank my Lord, I speak with tongues more than ye all:
Why did Paul speak with tongues?     Why did he feel it necessary to make such a claim?     Do you speak with tongues?     If not, why not?

We know that faith is necessary to appropriate the blessings of the Lord.     Praying in the Spirit builds up our faith .

Paul was used by the Lord to receive and deliver the Gospel of Grace Through Faith.     While the other apostles were caught between judaism and the power of the resurrection , Paul was preaching that In Christ we are New Spirit beings who are to be filled with the Holy Spirit .

The crux of the Gospel is redemption, New Birth and Spirit Baptism for the purpose of us being in intimate personal relationship with the Lord and manifesting as Sons Of The Holy Spirit.

We are to be one with Him .      We are to do greater works than Him .

What has this got to do with speaking in tongues?
To enter the Spirit Realm of consciousness we must surrender our soulish self to the New Spirit being who is In Christ.     In so doing, we communicate with the Lord in the Spirit.     That communication manifests as audible sounds coming from our mouth but not our minds - it comes as the Holy Spirit gives utterance.

The purpose of Speaking In Tongues is multi-fold but the most universal and personally powerful aspect is the Prayer Language.     This is what Paul was alluding to.     He prayed in the Holy Spirit and he prayed with the understanding also .

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Pray in your Prayer Language to be strengthened spiritually, physically and mentally meditating on the Word Of The Lord on which your faith rests.

Paul said that he spoke with tongues more than all the people at corinth.     He was talking about exercising his Prayer Language.

The New Birth is not just a theological concept.   It is a spiritual rebirth in that the Holy Spirit of Christ replaces the dead spirit (old sin nature) making us One with Christ Jesus.

This only happens when we knowingly and willfully believe the Truth about Christ Jesus and then earnestly reject the old sin nature (repent).

The baptism with the Holy Spirit is often called a second work of Grace but it is not intended to be so (see Cornelius).   The baptism occurs when our soul and body is truly dominated by our new Spirit.

To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is a critical aspect of offering our bodies as a living sacrifice.

Most Christian's never submit their bodies and so most Christian's are never baptized with the Holy Spirit.

An unfortunate thing in the charismatic ranks is that they fail to understand that the baptism is primarily for the purpose of empowering our testimony of Christ and our performing the works of Christ Jesus.

Speaking in tongues became the end all.   It is not but it is precious and powerful.   Those who do not speak in tongues miss out on a connection with their Lord that nothing else can replace.

Don't believe doctrine based on opinion or tradition.   Believe the Word, submit your body and be baptized in the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus.
