He used men like the patriarchs, Moses, Joshua, the Judges, Saul, David and prophets to lead them and to teach them His ways.   

He knew it wouldn't work but it was His only option because men were born with corrupted spirits from Original Sin that we call the Sin Nature.   

His fix for the problem was conceived in eternity past when He was formulating His Creation Plan to create man in order to raise up children unto Himself.   

That fix was His own shed blood.   To take our guilt and punishment upon Himself.   To bear our sickness and disease so we wouldn't have to.   

After 1500 years of Israel fumbling around in life, unable to deal with sin except through sacrifices and offerings, Jesus came and dwelt among us.   

And so, He did what was necessary to fix the problem.   However, unlike the Old Testament model of leading people in the right way through strong characters, His new model was that of Spirit And Truth.   

In the Spirit And Truth model, the salvation was to be on an individual basis.

Old Testament Israel was the twelve tribes of Jacob.   

New Testament Israel is the Body Of Christ.   

The Body Of Christ is the set of all believers who absorb the Words Of Christ and are absorbed into the Holy Spirit Of Christ.   

The head of this body is not a strong human hero, but God Himself whose name is Jesus.   

His Word and His Spirit are the glue that holds this body together.   

The body does not grow through human reproduction but it grows by the Gospel Of Jesus Christ being sown in the earth.
