When we think about the manifestation of eternal God in flesh we must ask the question why?
➛ it was a lowly act
➛ it was humiliating
➛ He left the comfort of heaven
➛ He suffered
➛ He was despised and rejected
➛ He died a cruel death
Why?
To set us Free from religion.
You say "That can't be the reason. He came to forgive our sins, to keep us out of hell and to take us to heaven."
But those things are bound up in religion.
The history of religion is based on man being to a lesser or greater degree at odds with God and God at odds with man.
Religion focused on the relationship problem between God and man. So, it devised ways to address the division between the two with
➛ prayers
➛ rituals
➛ sacrifices
Original Sin. What was it?
It was the fragmentation of the relationship between God and man.
Why did Jesus come? To restore that relationship - to reconcile us to Himself.
What that reconciliation accomplished was:
➛ it freed us from condemnation
➛ it freed us from the threat of eternal punishment
➛ it freed us from fear
➛ it freed us from performance
➛ it freed us to come to Him
➛ it freed us to receive His love
➛ if freed us to fellowship with Him
➛ if freed us to live in peace
➛ if freed us to expect good things from Him
Yes, He came to set us free.
The greatest gift that a lover can give their beloved is freedom - no strings - no expectations - no demands.
If every situation where a person worthy of love is set free by their lover, they become devoted to the one who could love them so much.
Such as it is with Christ. He came to set us free because He truly loves us with a selfless love.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. |
So, we must KNOW the Truth in order to be really and truly free.
What is this knowing Truth all about?
➛ It is falling in love with Jesus
➛ It is an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus
➛ It is allowing the knowledge of Him to transform you
It is NOT creating any list of responsibilities or requirements to be performed along with a schedule in which to perform them. That is religion.
Religion is a form of bondage.
It was a brilliant move by Satan to convince people who had been set free by Christ Jesus to create another religion to bind them and call it Christianity.
➛ Catholicism
➛ Protestantism
➛ (fill in your 'ism' version here)
The power of Christ is in relationship - not form and not performance.
What does this mean, as every believer is changed upon coming to Christ?
➛ The change is supernatural.
➛ It is Christ in us and not of ourselves.
How does this change occur? How do we become supernatural?
➛ we are born again of the Holy Spirit Of Christ Jesus
➛ we are baptized with His Holy Spirit
➛ we immersed in the person of Christ Jesus - His name
➛ we absorb His Word
➛ we experience a transformed mind so that we think like Him
➛ we begin to talk and act like Him
➛ we begin to do His works by His authority and His power
How do you get wet? You jump into the water.
How do you become free? You jump INTO Christ Jesus.
You call on Him and He gives you Eternal Life and Abundant Life - freely and unconditionally.
