The Gospel extends to society by its spread from individual to individual.
Hence the principles of Christ as taught in the New Testament should NOT be extrapolated to apply to government or those representing or acting on behalf of government.
For example, consider the teaching regarding turning the other cheek. This is an injunction to not return evil for evil.
However, suppose the person who strikes you, not only strikes the other cheek, but continues to pummel you until you are unconscious or dead.
Should government ignore the crime that has been committed?
➛ if yes the assaulter will feel free to assault others
➛ if no, the government does return evil for evil and punishes the assaulter
Government needs to operate under the Old Testament principles of law and justice so that there is order and safety in society.
The alternative is that a single wicked man could potentially kill every good man on earth.
