But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to the Lord must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Heb 11:6

Yes, Grace is the 'unmerited favor of God'.   But Grace must be received.   It is forced on no one.   

The Measure Of Faith that we were born with must be attached to the Faith Of Christ in order to appropriate Grace.   

For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of the Holy Spirit: Eph 2:8

Grace must be appropriated and the extent to which draw near to God is the extent to which we appropriate His Grace.   

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.     To him be glory both now and for ever.     Amen. 2Pe 3:18

If we do not spend time in the Word Of Christ and do not spend time praying in the Spirit Of Christ we do not grow in Grace or knowledge of Him thus stunting our own spiritual growth.   

Just as God's love is Conditional Love, Grace Is Conditional.
